An African proverb says:

Every morning a gazelle wakes up in Africa,
with a single thought in its head:
to run faster than the fastest lion,
or it will be the lion’s meal.

Every morning a lion wakes up in Africa,
with a single thought in its head:
to run faster than the slowest gazelle,
or it will go hungry and die.

Whether you are a lion
or a gazelle makes no difference at all.
Only know that when the sun comes up you had better be running,
and running faster than you did the day before.

What a fine description of the race we call life,
this African proverb: you have to run faster than yesterday.

Because if you are a lion,
and yesterday you caught the slowest gazelle,
and today you mean to catch another,
then you should know the slowest gazelle left is faster than you,
and you will have to pick up your pace.

And if you are a gazelle,
and you have not yet become a lion’s meal,
you must run faster than yesterday without fail,
because your turn may well have come.

So…
In the race of life there is only one condition for staying in it:
being faster than you were yesterday.
Take an honest look at yourself now.
Not faster than this person or that one. Faster than yesterday. Are you?

Success rests on that pace. Getting better gives you speed, and speed shows you the way.
